Episode 24 - Magic Kid
For Episode 24, we strap on our ninja duds and hi-ya our way through Magic Kid (1993) — Joseph Merhi letting his hair down and trading car chases and exploding buses for clowns, comedy and kid-friendly kung fu, as an 11-year-old karate champion from Michigan kicks his way through every gangster, surf bum and costumed assassin California has to offer. Don "The Dragon" Wilson shows up too, because of course he does. Joining us is filmmaker, YouTuber and all-round low budget cinema enthusiast Adam Thorn of Riot at the Movies, as we dig into the golden era of kids' martial arts cinema and celebrate the life and career of the wonderful Ted Jan Roberts. This one's got heart. And quite a lot of kicking. Let's go!

For Episode 23, we head to the mean, neon-soaked streets of late 80s Hollywood for Angels of the City (1989). We’re talking college girls, sorority pranks, pimps, shotgun blasts, useless boyfriends, harpoons, the darkest ending of all PM films and one absolute banger of a title track, all courtesy of the legendary Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs who wrote, directed, produced, starred in AND scored the thing. I review the first ever PM Entertainment film, L.A. Heat, which I loved by the way, maybe not the way they intended it but as an eyewitness to Detective Jon Chance’s deranged descent into hell and hitting rock bottom before violent death restores his soul and his faith in being a good cop.

Directed by Joseph Merhi, written by Charles T. Kanganis and starring Kevin Bernhardt, it may be early PM but its prophetic! We are, once again, joined by guests Chris Kacvinsky and Matt Poirier. Ratings rule. The camera never blinks.
