For the love of the 80s
I'll be traveling to my nation's capital in Scotland to attend the “For the love of the 80s” event that's taking place on the 10th and 11th of November at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre to cover the event for The After Movie Diner.
As an 80’s born kid (1985 actually) the guest list of people who'll be attending is a who's who of many childhood memories. When I was a kid I was obsessed with the Ghostbusters, I'd watch the movies and cartoons on hard rotation - I even owned a mini ghostbusting suit with proton pack and trap so the opportunity to meet singer Ray Parker Jr, who composed the stone cold classic title track, will make my weekend.
If you love the movies that Steven Spielberg directed, or helped get made in the decade that fashion forgot, the event has E.T. actor Robert MacNaughton - who's coming with a certain visitor who wants to phone home - and Gremlins Zach Galligan - who'll be attending with his furry friend who was bought as a Christmas present in a back alley store.
If late 70’s/80s Sci-Fi TV more your bag then the attendance Street Hawk's Rex Smith or Gil “Buck Rogers” Gerard, Dirk Benedict, Herbert Jefferson Jr, Jack Stauffer and Terry Carter from cult favourite Battlestar Galactica will serve that need. There will also be a “ Doctor” in the house with former “Who” actor Sylvester McCoy and his companion, Sophie Aldred, from the Scottish born actor's time in the TARDIS.
The 80’s also gave us many heroic men who took down the bad guys and looked good doing it, one of whom, of course, is the Legendary David Hasselhoff who's coming to Edinburgh with his hi-tech four wheeled buddy Kitt from the TV show, Knight Rider.
At the start of the decade, on the big screen, we had Sam Jones, saving the world, and Dale, from the diabolical Emperor Ming, as the title character Flash Gordon - well, he'll be in attendance! I'll also look forward to meeting respected bodybuilder and actor Lou Ferrigno who's world famous for his role as the first on screen version of The Incredible Hulk.
Coming to visit fans over in Scotland, in the days before the WWF became the WWE, Bret The Hitman Hart was a multi belt winning athlete after defeating many of our favourite wrestlers such as fellow “Scot” Rowdy Roddy Piper, Mr Perfect and Ric Flair.
As well as the usual cosplay, there will be traders selling all-sorts of cool fan item's, Q & A's with the stars and you'll have the opportunity to get pictures with the special guests - some even include various iconic props and vehicles.
If this two day event sounds like something you would love to attend please check out http://comicconventionscotland.co.uk/home for tickets and further information and look out for my interviews and coverage coming soon!
